๐ง Self-Awareness: Learning About My Feelings
Monday's Lesson - Understanding Yourself Better
Progress through today's lesson
๐ฏ What We're Learning
To be successful in life and at work, you need to be self-reliant. This means you can count on yourself.
Being self-reliant comes from three important skills:
1. Self-awareness ๐ง 2. Self-appreciation โค๏ธ 3. Self-acceptance ๐ค
1. Self-awareness ๐ง 2. Self-appreciation โค๏ธ 3. Self-acceptance ๐ค
What is self-reliance? Self-reliance means you trust yourself and your abilities. You believe you can complete tasks, solve problems, and reach your goals.
๐๏ธ Why This Matters
These skills are like building blocks. You need them first before you can build other good habits and attitudes. Without these skills, it's hard to feel good about yourself.
- Think of it like building a house - you need a strong foundation first
- These skills help you believe in yourself
- They help you understand that you need to keep improving
- Today we learn about the first skill: knowing your feelings
๐ค Questions to Think About
๐ซ What do you like best about yourself?
๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ What do your family and friends like about you?
๐ Do you worry too much about what other kids think of you?
"Look outside and you will see yourself. Look inside and you will find yourself." ๐ช
๐ Learning About Your Feelings
This is where everything starts. When you understand your feelings better, it's easier to learn the other two things.
Your feelings change how you act. When you know your feelings, you can make better choices. ๐ฏ
There are two types of self-awareness. Watch the video to learn about them!
๐ช Ask Others What They Think
To get really good at understanding yourself, ask other people what they think about you. Ask about good things and things you could work on.
Do you look in a mirror before you go outside?
Most people look in a mirror first. We can't see ourselves without a mirror!

Other people are like mirrors for our feelings and actions. They can help us see things we can't see ourselves.
โ Ask 'What' Questions
When you want to understand your feelings, ask 'What' questions instead of 'Why' questions.
- Instead of "Why am I scared?" ask "What makes me scared?"
- 'What' questions help you figure out what to do
- 'Why' questions sometimes make us feel bad about ourselves
- Try asking 'What' about something that bothers you
