Beyond Academics
How To Use MindSage Lessons
Simple. Consistent. Thought-Provoking.
Three Short Sections
Ideally, you’ll want to:
Start a new lesson each Monday, if possible.
Each lesson is divided into three sections—traditionally labeled Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
You do not need to follow those exact days, but we recommend allowing time between sections and focusing on only one section per day.
MindSage uses a micro-learning, metacognitive approach. Each section contains only a small amount of information—by design.
The real transformative power comes from taking time to think deeply about what you read. Each lesson includes a metacognitive goal, and much of the growth happens during your normal daily life as you observe your own thinking and behavior.
Metacognitive Tasks
As you go through the week, pay attention to how and why you think and act the way you do in relation to the lesson’s ideas.
What thoughts showed up?
What emotions did you feel—and why?
Did you notice any habits or patterns?
Are there changes you want to make?
Take your time. Pause and answer the questions in each section. Don’t just skim them—engage with them. We strongly recommend writing your reflections in a journal. You’ll be amazed at what you learn about yourself.
Group Metacognitive Discussion
The final day of the week should include a discussion. The purpose is simple: you learn more deeply when you hear how others processed the same ideas.
During discussion, reflect on:
How others responded to the lesson
What motivated their choices
The emotions they felt and why
How their insights compare to your own
This shared learning helps you understand multiple perspectives and strengthens your ability to reflect, empathize, and adjust your thinking.
If you’re doing this program in school, you’ll have this conversation in class.
If you’re participating independently, talk with a friend, classmates, or family—or join a workshop to learn as part of a team. Each Friday, workshop participants share what they’ve discovered about themselves.

Steps for Effective Use
-
Each lesson is divided into at least three sections. We recommend covering them on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday when possible. If that timing doesn’t work, simply try to space the sections apart so you have time for metacognitive reflection between them.
-
Don’t rush through the sections. Take time to really think about and answer the questions. Write down your thoughts and observations. These lessons are designed to help you become the best version of yourself, but that only happens if you’re honest about how and why you think and act the way you do—and whether any changes are needed. So take your time.
-
The metacognitive goals in this program are extremely important and powerful. They can change the way you see yourself, your abilities, and your future. If you put in the effort, these lessons can help you succeed in anything you choose to pursue. Don’t limit yourself. Commit. Take the time now to learn who you really are and what you’re capable of achieving.
